Frequently Asked Questions

It’s important to remember this system resets your hypothalamus and weight loss is the side effect, so-to-speak. That said, regular, healthy weight loss is one of the ways we know the program is working. Because we are all individual there is no set amount to lose. Many people report a loss of 0.3 to 0.5 kg a day. It’s normal and necessary that weight loss varies during Phase 2 but fat loss stays pretty constant. Weight changes can be due to: fluid retention, body re shaping, hormonal changes (ovulation, menses) etc.

The body retains water at different times for all sorts of reasons. Dr Simeons recognised some water retention happens when the body breaks down fat-cell-walls after the fat has been used.

This program is for those people with a chronic weight issue they have not been able to address by standard means. It is also an excellent alternative for those people who cannot exercise and are obese. The program is not made available to pregnant or breast feeding women or for children under the age of 17yrs. It is recommended to consult a health professional about the Wellness Through Weight Loss Program if you have any health concerns or are on medication.

Dr Simeons teaches that any fat lost using a VCLD alone is the wrong kind of fat. For many of us the hormone system is out of whack and needs to be corrected. The VLC diet alone targets the wrong fats to lose i.e. it will target your structural, then normal and after that the abnormal fat. We need our structural and normal fat stores.

As many of us know, a VLCD is not sustainable for the long term. Most dieters ‘give up‘ before they lose their abnormal fat stores. To make matters worse, when they resume eating their body tries to restore the (necessary) structural fat lost. What results is a viscous cycle that many people live out their whole lives, hating their body and with sub optimal health.

The Dr Simeons hCG diet when combined with drops: target the abnormal fats stores (the ones you want to lose), restores the balance in your body and so helps you achieve and maintain your optimal body weight. This improves body contours and ‘melts’ inches. The fat just seems to ‘vanish’ from the areas like hips, thighs, buttocks and belly rather than breasts (in women) which is usually what happens.

Yes. However, you will need to ensure you eat sufficient protein and this may require that you use supplements such as whey concentrate protein and/or Spirulina.

While taking the drops you must avoid putting oils and fats in or on the body. The price or quality of the product is irrelevant; anything that contains oil/fat is to be avoided. Please read the labels and if you can’t do without it please contact us for alternative products.

No! Continue to take all prescribed medication, changing ONLY if your health professional advises it.

No! In fact strenuous exercise can be detrimental while on the program. You should also avoid saunas while on Phase 2 of this program. Less is more – go for and enjoy a 30 minute walk.

Grissini are bread-sticks, and Melba Toast are Mini (tiny) Toasts. These are the only two sources of starch or carbs allowed on the program. Check the labels and keep the calories and oil content to a minimum. The average weight of a grissino is 5gm per serving. I have substituted a 1/2 rice cracker or 1 5gm plain Ryvita with no ill effect.

Yes, you can drink black coffee, just be mindful of excessive caffeine. You can use Stevia as a sweetener. 1Tbs of milk is allowed per day while on the drops – macchiato anyone?

Food addictions are real. If you’re a long term consumer of substances like sugar, alcohol, gluten, you will likely experience food cravings which will pass. Remember to support yourself by doing things like using your journal. You can reflect on what the food you’re craving meant to you (great information) and or write about how different you will feel after successfully completing the program. For some additional insight into your addictions try writing with your non dominant hand…

Wellness Through Weight Loss system sits snugly in between the normal menses of women. In menstruating women the best time to begin drops is directly after a period. While you can start mid cycle, Dr Simeons recommends users stay on the drops for at least 10 days before stopping for a period. Men need to plan to avoid heavy social times, or times where it may be hard to maintain control over calorie intake.

Stop taking the drops once bleeding starts but STAY ON the 500 calorie diet. Recommence the drops when the flow stops and add that number of days to the end of your program. If the period lasts more than 4 days you need to fat load again.

No, weight loss rate is rarely a consistent trajectory and there are often short stalls due to errors, lapses in consistency, lack of sleep, etc. Some experience a plateau in their weight loss from time to time, however clients usually notice quick weight loss after a plateau

It can be resumed under the following circumstances: Dr Simeons “If an interruption of treatment lasting more than four days is necessary, (…) increase the diet to at least 800 Calories by adding meat, eggs, cheese, and milk to the diet after the third day, as otherwise he will find himself so hungry and weak that he is unable to go about his usual occupation. If the interval lasts less than two weeks you can directly resume the drops and the 500 Calorie diet”

Yes, and a lot of people decide to do exactly that; just add more days as it suits you and your well-being – but remember 40 days is the limit.

Dr Simeons explains this well….in brief: “There may be no drop at all for two or three days and then a sudden loss which re-establishes the normal average. These fluctuations are entirely due to variations in the retention and elimination of water, which are more marked in women than in men.” Dr Simeons also explains that fat cells empty then appear to become filled with water as the body works on breaking down the cell membrane. Once it does this, the fluid is released and the weight drops. Again from Dr Simeons….a plateau, and this is not uncommon (lasting 4-6 days usually in the second half of the program) can either be allowed to resolve itself or an Apple Day can be undertaken.

Some of the benefits of rebalancing your hormones are that one, your appetite will most likely reduce and two, you would have learned, over the course of the program, what works best for your body. Furthermore, if you have completed Phases 3 and 4 correctly your metabolism should have re-set so that you are less likely to put weight 0n. If you continue to eat healthier then you should not have any worries.

No pharmaceutical drugs should be stopped without medical advice.
